PERSONAL PROFILE

Thorbjorn Olesen is one of the best golf players Denmark has ever had. He is known for his precision, power, and competitive spirit on the international stage. Since turning professional in 2008, he has secured multiple European tour civtories and represented Denmark in major glboal tournaments, including the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 and Paris 2024.

He started his professional career in 2008, playing in Vaerlose Golf Club. He had his first major international breakthrough in 2012 when he won his first European Tour title; the Sicilian Open. That victory also secured him the title as youngest Danish winner on the European Tour ever.

This win in 2012 also secured him two awards: ´Golf Player of the Year’ in Denmark and the oldest sports prize in Denmark ‘Upcoming Star in Denmark’.

In 2014 he won his second European Tour title in Perth and in 2015 he added a third title to his impressive resumé, winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

2016 was no exception for the Danish golf star and he won his fourth title, the Turkish Airlines Open. Both with his third and fourth title he wrote history again as youngest Danish player ever to win three and four European Tour titles. Later in 2016 Olesen wrote Danish history yet again when he and Soren Kjeldsen won the World Cup of Golf.

In 2018 he won his fifth tournament, the Italian Open and he also qualified for the Ryder Cup 2018, being part of Team Europe. It was the first time in history that two Danish players had been a part of the team at the same time. Thomas Bjorn was Captain of the team in 2018. Team Europe ended up winning the tournament.

In May 2022 he won his 6th title on the European Tour, the Betfred British Masters, a tournament which is part of the DP World Tour. He had an amazing start to 2023, winning Thailand Classic and his 7th European Tour title. In 2024 he claimed his 8th title by winning the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.

The Olympic Games

Thorbjorn Olesen represented Denmark in golf at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where the sport returned to the Olympic programme for the first time in over a century. He made history with Soren Kjeldsen being the first Danish golfers ever to compete at the Games. He qualified again to represent Denmark at Paris 2024 Olympic Games, confirming his position among the nation's elite golfers, placed 14, and marking his second Olympic appearance.
